The commitment to patient care and the rewards that come from helping others are the core values that drive Dr.Garret Hauptman, our chiropractic physician, and Wellness Director. This philosophy was inspired by his father, Dr. Stephen Hauptman, our medical physician and our Medical Director. Dr. Stephen Hauptman's tireless efforts, both in the field of research and within his medical practice, have been an inspiration to Dr. Garret, as well as to the countless thousands whose lives he has touched, saved, and enhanced.
In their work together, both Dr. Hauptmans have witnessed many medical achievements and have seen patients heal and recover from illness through both conventional medical treatment and alternative treatment. The medical model is designed to manage emergency health conditions but it seems to have forgotten in many cases the cause of disease, and does very little to promote health. Traditional Medicine, in many cases, overlooks the incredible innate ability of the body to heal itself. This innate ability of the human body to be healthy is at the heart of chiropractic philosophy and many other non-western health care disciplines. The wellness philosophy, put simply, is a way of life and health in which the remarkable capacity of the human body to heal is respected and utilized. This way of life is built around proper diet, adequate exercise, positive mental health, the induction of normal body structure and function, and normal energetic flow or "chi." This is not to say that traditional medicine and health care are not needed, rather that it is only part of the formula. While we need to manage symptoms and disease, we also need to be proactively working towards health. This model of wellness is not new. Holistic doctors (Chiropractors) and many other health care providers have been educating the public and using it for years. As this alternative movement has grown, many of its providers have lost sight of the "big picture." While they educate their patients on the importance of wellness and of the amazing potential of the human body, they focus only on their health care service.
What if there was another way? What if there was a place in which various health care providers, medical physicians, chiropractic physicians, massage therapists, registered dieticians, acupuncturists, and others participated together, integrating their care and various approaches so as to address the "big picture?"
With this question in mind, Fairmount Family Integrative Medicine and its unique Integrated Approach was born.
