The Pillars of Health

Throughout history, humans have searched for ways to prolong health, youth, and vitality. The fact remains that health cannot be discovered; it must be enriched from within. Unfortunately, we are taught from an early age that if we "feel good," and don't experience any symptoms, that we are healthy. We are also conditioned to believe that our bodies are weak and that we need to take medication to be healthy. The truth is, health is not merely the absence of symptoms, it is functioning physically, mentally and physiologically at our best. Dorlands Medical Dictionary defines health as an, "optimal state of physical, mental and social well being and not the absence of disease or infirmity." Medical experts agree that being healthy provides the foundation upon which our lives grow. Thomas Edison said, "The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in diet, exercise and care of the human frame." Health develops from our continuous participation in those activities that build, support, and maintain our health.
